Scholarships
The board is committed to issuing a
minimum of one scholarship per academic year to a qualified graduate
level student who is enrolled in an educational program leading to a
graduate degree in physical anthropology or forensic anthropology and
have some association with either the
AAFS or the
ABFA.
Ellis R. Kerley Forensic Sciences
Foundation Scholarships are awarded based on character, personal and
academic merit and commitment. Merit is demonstrated through
leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, academic
achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed.
Criteria
A scholarship will be awarded to a
graduate student who is continuing his/her education and research in
forensic anthropology. The applicant must meet the following
criteria:
- graduated from an accredited school
with an outstanding academic record
- currently enrolled in a graduate
program leading to either a masters or doctorate degree in
physical anthropology or forensic anthropology
- is studying at a university that has
a Diplomate of the ABFA on the faculty, or an AAFS Member or
Fellow on the faculty
- is sponsored by a member of the ABFA
by written recommendation
- is a student member of AAFS

THE
ELLIS R. KERLEY AWARD
In
addition to the scholarship which will be voted upon and issued, The
Ellis R. Kerley Forensic Sciences Foundation is pleased to announce
the introduction of THE ELLIS R. KERLEY AWARD PROGRAM, presented in
conjunction with the American Academy of Forensic Sciences -
Physical Anthropology Section. The purpose of The Award is to
recognize excellence in the continuing effort to research and
develop the uses and methods of forensic identification.
Papers or posters will be selected from among the Abstracts
submitted. At the annual American Academy of Forensic Sciences
meeting, the selected papers/posters will be presented during The
Ellis R. Kerley Award Program. The paper or research which best
demonstrates the excellence in pursuit of developments in the field
of Forensic Anthropology personified by the late Ellis R. Kerley
will receive The Ellis R. Kerley Award.
The
Award will be granted for the paper or poster which best
demonstrates originality, creativity, depth of research, innovation,
new methodologies, research design, significance to the field,
and/or potential impact on the practices of forensic anthropology.
Candidates must be AAFS
Members, Fellows or Provisional Members of the Physical Anthropology
Section.
Application for this award
is initiated by normal abstract submission to the AAFS including the
normal deadlines and processes. An indication on the submission
form is all it takes. Please contact the Anthropology Program Chair
for more information.
